'Gary was flicking beany gunge on my flawless new Ellesse top- I was yelling at him. What a pillock! Mum was dead, well - fatally injured - she died later in hospital. We just didn't know it at the time. Did we learn to live with it? We had to - we had to find a way. You don't grow out of your Mum, no matter what, that's the hardest part - all those memories.The Lost Boys are Gary, 14, and off the rails without Mum, John on the brink of GCSE's and a first romance, shouldering the burden of it all - and count Dad in too - failing to cope with life after Mum has been killed. Moving and compassionate, with flashes of humour, here is another Gibbons must-read, but you won't manage it dry-eyed.
