Author interview

When the body of Joe Pike's ex-girlfriend is found, her father asks Pike and Cole to shadow the investigation into her death as he is distrustful of the LAPD. Cole soon discovers that the girl was a victim of a serial killer and that this fact has been hushed up. As the police feel they have no hope of finding the killer, they attempt to set up one of the men who discovered the body. They are soon drawn into a nightmare world where plice corruptin and incompetence vie with the old wound sof past brutality to ruin the lives of everyone from Cole and Pike, to the grieving father of the dead woman and an ambitious young female LAPD detective. Even as the investigation progresses, a silent killer is methodically killing key witnesses, moving closer and closer to Pike and Cole, eventually convincing the police that Pike is the killer.
This is a 400 page masterpiece of sustained tension, threatened violence and the grim reality of police malpractice. It is shot through with the redeeming power of love and friendship and Cole's own inimitable wit is never more poignant as he faces his worst crises yet.

'Clever, observant, atmospheric and witty - and the talented William Hootkins has a ball with such grade-A material'
