The idea that a person could face the world and vanquish his enemies with just his intelligence fascinated him. Joe went on to earn a graduate degree and had several careers before writing IQ, his debut novel, inspired by his early experiences and love of Sherlock. Halil Inalcik

Halil Inalcik is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Chicago. Born in Istanbul, he was a Professor of Ottoman History at the University of Ankara from 1952 until 1972. He then joined the University of Chicago where he taught until his retirement in 1986. He is currently Professor of Ottoman History at Bilknet University in Ankara.
Bernard Ireland

Bernard Ireland has retired from the Ministry of Defence where he worked on a number of Anglo-French projects. Now a fulltime author, he is a fluent French speaker and an internationally acknowledged expert on military history. He is the author of Jane's Battleships of the 20th Century, Jane's Century of Naval Warfare, and Jane's Naval Aviation and The Mediterranean Campaign.

John Ironmonger

John Ironmonger was born and grew up in East Africa. He has a doctorate in zoology, and was once an expert on freshwater leeches. He is the author of THE GOOD ZOO GUIDE and the novels THE NOTABLE BRAIN OF MAXIMILIAN PONDER, which was shortlisted for the 2012 Costa First Novel Prize and the GUARDIAN's NOT THE BOOKER PRIZE, and THE COINCIDENCE AUTHORITY. John Irving

John Irving was born in New Hampshire. He studied at universities in America and Europe and published his first novel at the age of twenty-six. Several of his novels have been made into films, and in 2000 he was awarded an Oscar for the screenplay for THE CIDER HOUSE RULES. In 2001, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He lives in Vermont and Toronto.

Kevin Ivison

Captain Kevin Ivison, GM, was commissioned into the army in 2000, and served in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Iraq, where his work as a bomb disposal expert won him the George Medal. Since leaving the army in April 2009 he has worked for the Ministry of Defence.
