He is a Senior Lecturer in Systems at the Open University, and since 1987 has written a weekly column for the Observer which has won him several major awards including three nominations as Critic of the Year. William P Spence

William Spence was Professor of Construction Engineering at the School of Technology and Applied Science. As well as writing articles for magazines, he has written numerous successful books including Residential Framing and Woodworking Basics. Spence has designed homes and built two of his own.
