Kings of America

By R.J. Ellory

  • E-Book
  • £P.O.R.

An epic new novel that exposes the dark heart beneath the glamorous façade of 20th-century Hollywood - from the author of A QUIET BELIEF IN ANGELS and MOCKINGBIRD SONGS.

In America, kings are not born, they are made.

Danny McCabe isn't his real name. America certainly isn't his real home.

But now Danny finds himself fleeing Ireland for the bright lights of 1930s Hollywood with two virtual strangers, Nicky Mariani and his beautiful sister, Lucia.

As Lucia pursues her dream of stardom, Nicky finds his calling in the violent underbelly of the city of dreams. Torn between his love for Lucia and his desperate fear for their safety, Danny is drawn into a chain of events that will pit brother against sister, friend against friend, and lover against lover.

When questioned she alleges a tormented spirit killed the families for revenge.McGray, even though he believes her, must find a rational explanation that holds up in court, else Katerina will be sentenced to death.Inspector Ian Frey is summoned to help, which turns out to be difficult as he is still dealing with the loss of his uncle, and has developed a form of post-traumatic stress (not yet identified in the 19th century). This seems an impossible puzzle. Either something truly supernatural has occurred - or a fiendishly clever plot is covering a killer's tracks...

Fame Adjacent

What if your best days ever, happened when you were 11? It's not easy being the only cast member of a 1990s song-and-dance show who didn't become famous. When Holly Danner was eleven, she used to do anything for a laugh on "Diego and the Lion's Den". Only for her childhood best friends to grow up and dominate the worlds of pop, film, and TV while she had a few near-misses and a nanny gig for her niece. She even made peace with the whole thing years ago. But when she finds out there's a 25th anniversary for the show and she wasn't invited, it's time to set the record straight. Three problems: she's currently in Internet Rehab, she has no money, and the only person who can get her to the reunion is Thom Parker, a handsome, infuriatingly level-headed patient who doesn't think she should confront her famous ex-friends. FAME ADJACENT is a contemporary, realistic, and humorous look at love, friendship, and fame, as seen through the eyes of a girl who lived it - from the sidelines.
