Game of Scones

All Men Must Dine

By Jammy Lannister

  • Hardback
  • £10.99

A book of edible recipes from the Seven Kingdoms.

The struggle for the Iron Scone has begun and chaos reigns throughout the Seven Kingdoms. Appetites are rising and kings, queens, knights, liars and honest men battle it out as they play the Game of Scones.

Jammy Lannister, by right of birth, blood and dough, has laid his claim to the Iron Scone of Westeros: join him as he fights his way through the kitchen, encountering edible desserts and baked goods including Unsullied Soldiers (without nuts), Brienne of Tart, Jaime and Cersei's Family Mess and Tyrion's Shortbread.

ARYA HUNGRY? BECAUSE DINNER IS COMING . . .

Biographical Notes

Ser Jammy Lannister is a Knight of Westeros, a long-standing member of the King's guard, and one of the finest bakers in the Seven Kingdoms. Having lost his right hand in a tragic accident involving spun sugar, he went on to become the greatest left-handed whisker this side of the Narrow Sea. He currently lives in King's Landing with his sister. (They are just really good friends...).

This 'Game of Scones' baking book is possibly the best thing ever. — Leah Hyslop, TELEGRAPH
Remember when someone published an amazing book of 'Breaking Bad'-inspired desserts? Well now they've done the same with 'Game of Thrones'. Think edible versions of the unsullied (made without nuts), gingerbread Tyrions and a custard pie known as 'Brienne of Tart'. The author? Jammy Lanister (we suspect that's not their real name). — Alexi Duggins, TIME OUT
This pun-powered recipe book inspired by Game of Thrones is sure to make an appropriate gift for anyone who read the books and wanted to be the character Hot Pie. It's filled with lots of photos that will inspire you to decorate your food in an appropriately Westeros-style, as well as recipe and ingredient lists. — STARBURST

Never In A Million Years

Ivor Baddiel, Jonny Zucker
Authors:
Ivor Baddiel, Jonny Zucker

The authors of the bestselling NOT THE HIGHWAY CODE shine a light on the extensive back catalogue of dodgy predictions through the ages. The first end of the world prediction was recorded one second after the Big Bang and since then it has become the daddy of all predictions with, to date, no one getting it right. And human beings have been around for about 200,000 years, with very little evolutionary difference, and yet we still haven't developed X-Ray eyes or the ability to fly.In this book, Baddiel and Zucker examine the predictions that have been made since the dawn of time on a variety of subjects, from the end of the world and the human body, to global warming, robots in the workplace, teleportation and space exploration. With a witty and fresh tone, they examine how these predictions came about and why, and rate them for retrospective accuracy.

The Cardinal's Blades

Pierre Pevel
Authors:
Pierre Pevel

The Cardinal's Blades is part historical novel, part old-fashioned swashbuckling high-action adventure, and part classic fantasy. Pierre Pevel has woven some of the best-loved fantasy tropes - musketeer-style adventuring, daring swordsmen, political intrigue, non-stop action and dragons - into a stunning new fantasy series.Paris, 1633. Louis XIII reigns over France ... and Cardinal Richelieu governs the country. One of the most dangerous and most powerful men in Europe, Richelieu keeps a constant, sharp eye on the enemies of the Crown to avoid their assassination attempts, thwart their spies and avert their warmongering. But he's up against people who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, even going so far as to forge alliances with France's oldest and deadliest enemies. Spain, and the Court of Dragons. The nobility keep tiny dragonnets as pets; royal couriers ride tame wyverns, and lethal man-shaped scaled dracs ropam the country. But the power rising from the Court of Dragons is anything but mundane; the Black Claw sect draws on dragons as they once were: ancient, terrible, utterly merciless ... and poised to move against France.Faced with the growing threat from Spain, Richelieu summons Captain la Fargue, an exceptional swordsman, devoted officer and brilliant leader. If he's to turn aside the Black Claw's schemes, La Fargue and his legenday company of swashbucklers and rogues must be persuaded to once again risk their lives, fortunes and reputations for Richelieu, and for France. It's the biggest challenge yet for The Cardinal's Blades - and they'll need to be sharp ...

Hammer And Tickle

Ben Lewis
Authors:
Ben Lewis

The book that immerses the Cold War in the warm bath of nostalgia.Q: Why, despite all the shortages, was the toilet paper in East Germany always 2-ply?A: Because they had to send a copy of everything they did to Moscow.Communist jokes are the strangest, funniest, most enchanting and meaningful legacy of the 80 years of political experimentation in Russia and Eastern Europe, known as Communism. The valiant and sardonic citizens of the former Communist countries - surrounded by an invisible network of secret police, threatened with arrest, imprisonment and forced labour, confronted by an economic system that left shops empty, and bombarded with ludicrous state propaganda - turned joke-telling into an art form. They used jokes as a coded way of speaking the truth.HAMMER AND TICKLE takes us on a unique journey through the Communist era (1917-1989), and tells its real history through subversive jokes and joke-tellers, many of whom ended up in the gulags. It is also illustrated with a combination of rare and previously unpublished archive material, political cartoons, caricatures, photographs and state-sponsored propaganda. Humorous, culturally poignant and historically revealing, this is the story of a political system that was (almost) laughed out of existence.

PostSecret

Frank Warren
Authors:
Frank Warren

A compelling book of the confessions and secrets from the PostSecret website - the project that captured a nation's imaginationThe instructions were simple, but the results were extraordinary.'You are invited to anonymously contribute a secret to a group art project. Your secret can be a regret, fear, betrayal, desire, confession or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything - as long as it is true and you have never shared it with anyone before. Be brief. Be legible. Be creative.'It all began with an idea Frank Warren had for a community art project. He handed out postcards, asking people to write down a secret and post it to him, anonymously. The response was overwhelming. In under a year, Frank had over 10,000 cards which he posted on the website. The confessions were thought-provoking, funny and weird, touching on every aspect of human experience and revealing much about the state of modern life, and catapulting PostSecret to the status of global phenomenon.Superbly illustrated throughout, this book is a great conversation piece, fascinating to flick through, and almost unputdownable once you have.
