How to Break Up With Your Phone

The 30-Day Plan to Take Back Your Life

By Catherine Price

  • Hardback
  • £12.99

Conquer your phone addiction in just 30 days, and discover a happier, healthier and more fulfilled you.

Is your phone the first thing you reach for when you wake up? And the last thing you see before you sleep? Do you find the hours slip away as you idly scroll through your social media timeline?

In short, are you addicted to your phone?

If so, How to Break Up with Your Phone is here to help.

How to Break Up With Your Phone is a smart, practical and useful plan to help you conquer your mobile phone addiction in just 30 days - and take back your life in the process.

Recent studies have shown that spending extended time on our phones affects our ability to form new memories, think deeply, focus and absorb information, and the hormones triggered every time we hear our phones buzz both add to our stress levels and are the hallmark signs of addiction. In How to Break Up with Your Phone, award-winning science journalist Catherine Price explores the effects that our constant connectivity is having on our brains, bodies, relationships, and society at large and asks, how much time do you really want to spend on your phone?

Over the course of 30 days, Catherine will guide you through an easy-to-follow plan that enables you to identify your goals, priorities and bad habits, tidy your apps, prune your email, and take time away. Lastly, you will create a new, healthier relationship with your phone and establish habits and routines to ensure this new relationship sticks.

You don't have to give up your phone forever; instead you will be more mindful not only of how you use your phone, but also about how you choose to spend the precious moments of your life.

Turning the Tide on Plastic

Lucy Siegle
Authors:
Lucy Siegle

Enough plastic is thrown away every year to circle the world 4 times More than 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans each year 300 million tonnes of new plastic is produced every year An estimated 5 trillion pieces of plastic now litter the world's oceans 38.5 millon plastic bottles are used every day in the UK A million plastic bottles are used per minute around the world 500 million plastic straws are used per yearWithout big action, at the current rate, pieces of plastic will outnumber fish in the ocean by 2050. Plastic flows into our lives from every direction and most of it is not recycled. Instead it is incinerated or ends up in landfill, where it will sit for hundreds of years, or enters the world's seas where it fragments into tiny pieces to become microplastics - the environmental scourge of our times. Many of us had assumed that governments, brands and waste authorities were dealing with plastic on our behalf. But the impact of shows such as Blue Planet along with national beach cleans and high-profile campaigns have resulted in a collective wake-up call. If there were plans and strategies, they have not worked as we imagined. It would be easy to feel despondent but instead we need to turn our anger and emotion into action, starting by making a big dent in our own enormous consumption. Turning the tide on Plastic is here just in time. Journalist, broadcaster and eco lifestyle expert Lucy Siegle provides a powerful call to arms to end the plastic pandemic along with the tools we need to make decisive change. It is a clear-eyed, authoritative and accessible guide to help us to take decisive and effective personal action. Because this matters. When it comes to single-use plastics, we are habitual users, reaching out for plastic water bottles, disposable coffee cups, plastic straws and carrier bags multiple times a day. If only 12 of us adopt Lucy's 'reduce, rethink, refill, refuse' approach, we could potentially ditch 3K-15K single items of plastic in a year. When we consider our power as influencers - whether at school, the hairdressers, at work or on the bus - we suddenly become part of something significant. So now is the time to speak up, take action and demand the change you want to see in the ocean, in the supermarket aisles and on the streets. It's time to turn the tide on plastic, and this book will show you how.

C'est La Vie

Fabrice Midal
Authors:
Fabrice Midal

THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER'The book's motto - give yourself a break! - is perhaps the most radical resolution of the year' ElleBe calm... Stop stressing... Embrace the universe... Try yoga... Be fulfilled... We're overwhelmed with these sorts of commands, and we often torture ourselves to "try harder," yet somehow we never feel we've done quite enough. It's about time we stop pushing ourselves to do what we think we're supposed to do, and instead simply allow ourselves to be angry, be tired, be silly, be passionate - to give yourself a break, and just be. Fabrice Midal, one of the world's leading teachers of meditation explains why the key to true mindfulness is freeing ourselves from social and often self-imposed stresses - and highlights how we can embrace life more fully by giving ourselves a break. He gives readers permission to:Stop obeying -- you are intelligentStop being calm -- be at peaceStop wanting to be perfect -- accept life's stormsStop rationalizing -- let things beStop comparing -- be youStop being ashamed -- be vulnerableStop tormenting yourself -- become your own best friendStop wanting to love -- be benevolentIn C'est La Vie, Midal offers us a new solution to the perennial problem of our too much, too fast modern life. It's OK, he urges us, to say no. It's fine to quit the things that don't make you happy. It's necessary, in fact, to give yourself a break if things don't go your way and say, simply, C'est la vie. Midal gives each of us permission to stop doing the things that don't make us happy...so we have room in our lives for the things that do.
