Description Gillingham Library is excited to announce that the local, bestselling author Libby Page is coming to talk about her book "The Lido" which has just been published in paperback. Libby will be in conversation about her book and her writing with Fanny Charles, herself a well-known local writer. Libby says: "For me, one of the key themes in the book is the value of community and its importance within our society. This was the driving force behind the book: the idea that hubs like lidos, libraries and other community spaces are worth fighting for. The book also covers the topic of loneliness from two perspectives: that of a bereaved 86-year-old, and perhaps the lesser-told story of the loneliness that many people experience in their twenties when finding their feet in the world and dealing with the pressures that come with that." About Libby: THE LIDO is Libby Page's first novel. It was bought in six-figure pre-emptive deals within 24 hours of submission in the UK and the US, and has been sold in over twenty other territories around the world. Libby was educated at Gillingham School (where she was head girl) and went on to graduate from The London College of Fashion with a BA in Fashion Journalism before working at The Guardian and in marketing. She is now a full-time writer, as well as a passionate outdoor swimmer. She and her sister run a blog and Instagram account @theswimmingsisters, documenting their swims and the benefits of outdoor exercise for mental health. Libby has been a leading campaigner for fairer internships and has spoken on radio, TV and in parliament in support of fair pay for interns. Libby began writing at an early age and, when she was sixteen, wrote an illustrated book, Love Pink, to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. Libby now lives in London, where she enjoys finding new swimming spots and pockets of community within the city. On the night: Your ticket includes a glass of wine or soft drink. Libby's book "The Lido" will be on sale too. www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/librariesasculturalhubs
