A wellbeing guide to the art of conscious breathing techniques: boost energy, combat stress and improve heart health.

Breathing is something we all know how to do. And yet, the majority of teenagers and adults let go of their natural ability to breathe fully. We are conditioned from an early age to control our feelings and emotions, and as a result our muscles tighten and our breathing patterns become restricted. The impact on our mental and physical wellbeing is huge.

By learning how to consciously connect to our breath and encourage its natural rhythms, we can harmonise the body and mind, live life fully, find emotional freedom and feel empowered. And Breathe teaches readers how to harness the power of conscious breathing, a technique which helps alleviate stress, fatigue and negative emotions such as anger, frustration and depression, leaving readers feel calm yet energised, focused yet relaxed. It is a practical guide to letting go of the unwanted patterns of emotions, blockages and tension which hold us back and includes simple to follow exercises, tips, case studies, interviews and testimonials.

The Use Of The Self

F.M. Alexander
Authors:
F.M. Alexander

The world famous classic by the originator of the Alexander Technique, with a brand new introduction by Anthony Kingsley.Frederick Matthias Alexander was born in Tasmania in 1869. In his twenties, he became a professional reciter of dramatic pieces. After almost completely losing his voice he pioneered a method of improving the 'use' of his body musculature in all positions and movements and cured his vocal problems without medical aid.Alexander then realised that most people stood, sat and moved in a defective manner and that incorrect 'use of the self' might be the cause of much human suffering. He moved to London and established a school, publishing several books and achieving success, with recommendations from famous contemporaries such as Aldous Huxley and Sir Stafford Cripps. Alexander died in 1955 but his 'principle' lives on through the work of many teachers of his method.

Catherine Price
Authors:
Catherine Price

Is your phone the first thing you reach for when you wake up? And the last thing you see before you sleep? Do you find the hours slip away as you idly scroll through your social media timeline? In short, are you addicted to your phone? If so, How to Break Up with Your Phone is here to help. How to Break Up With Your Phone is a smart, practical and useful plan to help you conquer your mobile phone addiction in just 30 days - and take back your life in the process. Recent studies have shown that spending extended time on our phones affects our ability to form new memories, think deeply, focus and absorb information, and the hormones triggered every time we hear our phones buzz both add to our stress levels and are the hallmark signs of addiction. In How to Break Up with Your Phone, award-winning science journalist Catherine Price explores the effects that our constant connectivity is having on our brains, bodies, relationships, and society at large and asks, how much time do you really want to spend on your phone? Over the course of 30 days, Catherine will guide you through an easy-to-follow plan that enables you to identify your goals, priorities and bad habits, tidy your apps, prune your email, and take time away. Lastly, you will create a new, healthier relationship with your phone and establish habits and routines to ensure this new relationship sticks. You don't have to give up your phone forever; instead you will be more mindful not only of how you use your phone, but also about how you choose to spend the precious moments of your life.

C'est La Vie

Fabrice Midal
Authors:
Fabrice Midal

THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER'The book's motto - give yourself a break! - is perhaps the most radical resolution of the year' ElleBe calm... Stop stressing... Embrace the universe... Try yoga... Be fulfilled... We're overwhelmed with these sorts of commands, and we often torture ourselves to "try harder," yet somehow we never feel we've done quite enough. It's about time we stop pushing ourselves to do what we think we're supposed to do, and instead simply allow ourselves to be angry, be tired, be silly, be passionate - to give yourself a break, and just be. Fabrice Midal, one of the world's leading teachers of meditation explains why the key to true mindfulness is freeing ourselves from social and often self-imposed stresses - and highlights how we can embrace life more fully by giving ourselves a break. He gives readers permission to:Stop obeying -- you are intelligentStop being calm -- be at peaceStop wanting to be perfect -- accept life's stormsStop rationalizing -- let things beStop comparing -- be youStop being ashamed -- be vulnerableStop tormenting yourself -- become your own best friendStop wanting to love -- be benevolentIn C'est La Vie, Midal offers us a new solution to the perennial problem of our too much, too fast modern life. It's OK, he urges us, to say no. It's fine to quit the things that don't make you happy. It's necessary, in fact, to give yourself a break if things don't go your way and say, simply, C'est la vie. Midal gives each of us permission to stop doing the things that don't make us happy...so we have room in our lives for the things that do.
