Confessions of a Learner Parent

Parenting like a boss. (An inexperienced, slightly ineffectual boss.)

By Sam Avery

  • Hardback
  • £12.99

An honest, sometimes-touching, always-hilarious parenting book from a comedian-cum-Dad.

'I always wanted kids - but then again, I always wanted a loft conversion. Both are pretty easy to put off as they're very expensive and tend to wreck your house.'

Stand-up comedian Sam Avery (aka the Learner Parent) started his award-winning blog when his twin boys were born. A million nappies, Peppa Pig episodes and a lot less sleep later, he shares all the lows, highs and hilarious in-betweens of his experiences of first-time parenthood in this, his highly anticipated first book.

Sam's honest, messy and laugh-out-loud account of trying for a baby (which transpired to be babIES) and figuring out what to do with them once they arrived - right up to the toddler years of talking, walking and tantrum-ing - will have you crying with laughter between your own nappy changes and nursery runs.

Biographical Notes

Sam Avery, a quasi rock star in his 'youth' and a stand-up comedian ever since, started a blog when his twin boys were born to share his parenting jubilations and tribulations. Within months he had won Best New Blog at the MAD awards and saw the devoted following to his Facebook page, which he updates regularly, sky rocket. He has been featured in the Mail online, the Lad Bible, Netmums and the Liverpool Echo and makes regular appearances on 5 Live and BBC 6 Music. You can download a new episode of his 'Things I Learned' podcast every Monday on iTunes.

Natalie Cox
Authors:

'Such a funny, sparky book... An ideal read for anyone who is a fan of Christmas or dogs - or both!' Sophie KinsellaCharlie hates the holidays, and this year is shaping up to be her worst yuletide ever. Her boyfriend has left her for his personal trainer, her flat is out of bounds after a gas leak, and her mother has gone to spend Christmas in Melbourne with her fifth husband. Finding herself single, mildly concussed and temporarily homeless, Charlie hesitantly agrees to dust off her wellies and spend the festive season in Devon, looking after Cosy Canine Cottages, her cousin Jez's dog-care centre. However, her plans for a quiet rural Christmas with only the four-legged friends for company are dashed as soon as she meets Malcolm the deaf Great Dane, Hugo, his gorgeous (but engaged) owner, and Cal, the undeniably attractive but unbearably haughty and patronising local vet...
